Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.)

Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, NDC, PSC (retd) joined the Interim Government on 16 August 2024 as Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Agriculture.
Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was born on February 2, 1953 in a noble Muslim family of Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj district.
He started his service life on January 11, 1975 by getting commissioned in the Artillery Corps of the Bangladesh Army. He graduated from Defense Services Command and Staff College and Bangladesh National Defense College, Mirpur, Dhaka. During his distinguished service in the military, he held the posts of Commander of Artillery Regiment, Artillery Brigade, Principal Staff Officer of the Army and Quartermaster General. Mr. Chowdhury served as a Group Testing Officer (GTO) in the Inter Services Selection Board as well as an instructor at the Bangladesh Military Academy. He also served as the Chairman of the Army-run Bangladesh Diesel Plant Company. He participated in the United Nations Mission as a United Nations Military Observer and Staff in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Rwanda and Georgia from 1994 to 1996. Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was the Director General of Bangladesh Rifles (now BGB) from 2003 to 2006. As a result of his professionalism and operational skills BDR has been able to face challenging situations at various times. His plans and strategies play a very effective role in preventing various types of crime and smuggling in the border areas. Border security missions were successfully completed under his leadership. As a result, the capacity and credibility of BDR (now BGB) increased. After the BDR rebellion in 2009, as QMG, Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury headed the Army’s Inquiry Committee. He retired from the Army on 2 February 2010. He was awarded Army Medal (SBP) and Independence Day Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution. In personal life Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury is the father of two children (one son and one daughter). His wife’s name is Laila Arju, son Dr. Rishad Chowdhury Robin and daughter Rasna Chowdhury Liz. He travels to different countries for work.
