Director, Plant Protection Wing responsible for this department. Designing an annual work planned to the cultivated areas for keeping safe from disease and pest infestation. Plant protection wing of DAE provides surveillance and forecasting for field crops as required quick action on pest infested areas for better pest management, providing technical advice and justified control measures to the farmer’s level through field level extension workers. Implementing & establishing integrated pest management (IPM) at farmer’s level for preserving the environment. Providing registration certificates and licenses for different types of agricultural pesticide (AP) and public health products (PHP) as well as its production & marketing. Ensuring quality production and distribution of pesticides for judicial use of pesticide at farmer’s level. Establishing linkage with international, national, non-Govt. and private origination for common issues and conceptions.
Responsibilities of Plant Protection Wing:
- Surveillance and forecasting on standing crops for determining epidemic stages of pest infestation and consequently taking initiative necessary action with recommendations for national program
- Implementing effective and sustainable techniques for protection and precaution measures when disease and pest infestation stages turn to epidemic
- Establishing and expansion of necessary innovative technique for integrated pest management (IPM) for crop production;

Training and motivation for establishing integrated pest management (IPM) and preservation of natural enemy and predators consequently minimizing pesticides
- Issuing and renewal of registration certificate of pesticides and different types licenses such as import, repacking, formulation, wholesale stock, advertisement etc.
- Ensuing pesticide quality control on production, marketing and judicious use;
- Recommendations for maintenance of environment preservation on toxicological effect of pesticide use;
- Supervision on demand oriented quality pesticides utilization and expansion in farmer’s level, so that pesticide research oriented information delivers to extension messages;
- Responding on problems of pest management from field level’s and providing technical advices for relevant cases
- Implementing guidelines for plant protection purpose such as activities of surveillance for pest infestation, precaution and control measures, identification of local agencies for plant protection, production of pesticide and distribution;
- Linkage between DAE and research organizations for pest management, innovative techniques, research findings, searching innovative techniques of pest management from international and private organizations.
